Tips to safeguard your Customers Automobiles
Repair Day Drop off: Encourage your customers to bring their vehicles to your shop only on the day you are expecting to do the repairs.
Discourage them from bringing the vehicle the night before.
Stay Open Later: Stay open late enough each day, giving each customer time to pick up his or her vehicle that very day, after work,
instead of taking the risk of keeping the vehicle overnight.
Know how well your Employees Drive: Make every potential employee bring you a Motor Vehicle Abstract when you conduct an employment interview.
And, purchase a new Motor Vehicle Abstract at least once every 18 months for all existing employees. Remember, a bad driver is a bad driver at home,
and at work. With their own vehicles as well as your customers vehicles
Zero Tolerance Policy: Be diligent and dismiss any employee caught running a personal errand in a customers automobile. Maintain a zero tolerance policy and
have this stated where all employees can see the notice.
Used Fenced, Well Lit Areas: Whenever possible, store customers automobiles in a fenced, well lit area and whever possible, inside your building.
Make it as hard as possible for vandals and theives to pick you as an easy target.
No "Insurance Permission:" Remember that you do not have "insurance permission" to drive a customers automobile for any reason other than to pick up,
deliver, test-drive, or check your work. Also remember that you do not have "insurance permission" to let anybody else but a full-time employee behind
the wheel of a customers automobile. Your insurance coverage will not pay if these basic rules are broken.
Amendments for Property other than Automobile: You may be working on more than customers automobiles, and we need to know this. The coverage for
"customers property" that most Automotive Service businesses carry is assuming that property is an automobile. If it happens to be a watercraft, for instance, you
probably need amendments to your insurance coverage.
